Dandenong’s Hesham Habibullah, 24, appears in the new SBS documentary, Halal Mate.

“We pray once at sunrise, once after the sun has reached its peak, then just before the sun goes down, once just after it sets, and a night prayer once all light is gone,” he explained.

My thoughts ...

This is the power of Islam - mental reminders: the sun, headscarf, veils, feet washing, minarets, prayer rooms, the beards, etc. It's all IN YOUR FACE, ALL THE TIME. That is why is spreads so fast. The visual reminders are relentless: you have absolutely no chance of forgetting about Islam and thinking for yourself. It is complete thought control. Sure, everyone is "free" to think for themselves, but in reality - with the pressure of conformity and constant visual reminders, there is no alternative but to leave or submit.

In contrast, secular folk practice religion invisibly, in private. The only way it is spread is verbally.

Visual reminders are used by those folks selling Expand Your Memory books and so forth e.g.

10. Use Visual Reminders.
Visual reminders can help you remember and focus. I especially like visual reminders for remembering your goals. If your goal is to take a trip to a beautiful island in a few years, keep a magazine photograph of the island right on your desk. If your goal is to own your own business one day, find a picture or ornament that will help remind you of this goal each day.
