Assasination Threat to Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer

Mainstream Turkish daily Milliyet reported that the security forces were on alert due to a threat directed at President Sezer, a staunch defender of secularism in Turkey.

The report said that the threat was sent by email to the anonymous informer line of Ankara Security Directorate from an internet café. The message said, ‘tell your president that he has long deserved C-4 (an explosive) and that he better wises up and behaves himself. Or else,’

Recently, an Islamist who is on trial for the May 2006 shootings in the high administrative court that killed a judge and wounded five, said in court that he had planned to kill President Sezer too.
