Opposition Parties Lash Out At Erdogan For Remarks Against Columnist

Republican People’s Party [CHP] MP Kemal Kilicdaroglu reacted to PM Erdogan’s statement of last night that those who oppose Gul’s presidency must give up their Turkish citizenship and leave the country.

Kilicdaroglu described prime minister’s statement as grave and said that the country was moving fast towards division. Kilicdaroglu said, “PM’s ears must not be hearing what his mouth says. His statements demonstrate AKP’s culture of imposition”.

Secretary General of Democratic Left Party [DSP] Masum Turker said that the PM’s remarks were unfortunate and they meant to change the concept of citizenship as it is defined by Ataturk and by the constitution. Turker said that what the prime minister said means “if you do not accept AKP’s sovereignty, you are not a Turk”.

Turker said that Bekir Coskun’s views were clearly based on his journalistic criticism; and if the prime minister cannot tolerate criticism and expresses his intolerance with fury, this is sign of how his administration regards the citizens of this country. The PM who claims to be a democrat, must immediately correct himself and apologize to the public.
